Our story, values, and the team behind Aberdeen's trusted youth finance education
Opal Zone began when two Aberdeen-based educators noticed a gap in how young people learned about money. Schools covered maths, but practical financial skills were largely left to chance.
We started with a single Saturday workshop in a community centre. Within months, word spread among local families, and our programme expanded to serve children from age six through to teenagers preparing for university or apprenticeships.
Today, we operate from a dedicated learning space in Aberdeen and offer both in-person and online sessions. Our mission remains unchanged: give young people the knowledge and habits they need to manage money well throughout their lives.
Explore Our ProgrammesThe principles that shape every session we deliver.
Financial education should not be a privilege. We keep fees reasonable and offer bursary places for families who need support.
Every child's background and family circumstances are different. We teach principles without judgement.
Theory matters less than action. Our sessions focus on real scenarios children encounter in everyday life.
Child welfare comes first. All staff are PVG checked, and we maintain small group sizes for close supervision.
The educators and professionals who bring our curriculum to life.
Former primary teacher with a personal finance qualification. Started Opal Zone after seeing students struggle with basic money concepts.
Background in banking and youth work. Designs our secondary-age curriculum and entrepreneurship workshops.
Specialises in early years education. Creates engaging activities that make abstract concepts tangible for younger children.
Sessions take place at our dedicated space near Aberdeen city centre. The room is set up specifically for small-group learning, with resources that support hands-on activities.
For families who prefer remote learning or live outside the city, we also run live online sessions with the same interactive approach. Each child receives materials in advance so they can participate fully.
Whichever format you choose, class sizes remain capped to ensure every young person gets the attention they deserve.
